LUBE-IT™ -- Multi User Setup Notes

In order for LUBE-IT Multi-user to function best there are a few settings and files that need to be verified. To insure reliable operation please be certain your network configuration meets the following specifications:

WORKSTATIONS:

All OS Versions:

• Workstation Security:

LUBE-IT needs to be able to update the following registry key at runtime

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI\SP3_ODBC

LUBE-IT also needs to be able to create and add files to the users Temp directory

Windows 95, 98, Me: Not Supported

Windows NT Workstation:

• Version 4.0 with service pack 5 or greater (service pack 6a recommended)
• Verify the following registry settings:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters

UseOpportunisticLocking REG_DWORD 0 (false)

• If using the Novell NetWare Client verify you are using shell version 4.7 or higher. It might be necessary to turn off File Caching from the Advanced Settings tab from the Novell Client Properties Screen.

Windows 2000 Professional / XP Professional 

• Service Pack 4 (or greater)
• Disable Opportunistic Locking - see MS article: Configuring Opportunistic Locking in Windows (Q296264)

SERVERS:

Windows NT Server:

• Should be at least Version 4.0 with service pack 5 (service pack 6a recommended)
• Verify the following registry settings:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

EnableOplocks REG_DWORD 0 (false)

CachedOpenLimit REG_DWORD 0

XP Professional / Windows 2000 Server / Windows 2003 Server

• Should be at least service pack 2
• Verify the following registry settings:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MRXSmb\Parameters

OplocksDisabled REG_DWORD 1 (true)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

EnableOplocks REG_DWORD 0 (false)

Novell NetWare:

• Version 3.12 or higher
• Version 4.11 or higher
• Verify that files are flagged Read / Write / Share

Note: Regardless of the type of network you are using it is best to keep the number of communication protocols to a minimum.

File and Folder Security:

The following is a list of the minimum security for the various files and folders in LUBE-IT

LUBE-IT root directory:

• Modify
• All exes, dlls, hlp: deny delete

Archive directory:

• Modify

Backup:

• Read Only , Deny Delete

CleanDB:

• Read Only , Deny Delete

CustRpts:

• Modify , Deny Delete

Data:

• Modify

Demo:

• Modify

Reports:

• Read Only , Deny Delete

Survey:

• Modify

WS_Setup:

• Read Only , Deny Delete
